Replacement of grocery stamps in Louisiana – If you are a Louisiana resident and have received a food stamp and were affected by Hurricane Barry, you may only be eligible for food replacement benefits for food lost to Hurricane Barry if you report your loss to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) .ts for groceries lost in Hurricane Barry only if you report your loss to the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Replacement benefits are not automatic for Hurricane Barry. SNAP recipients must apply for them. On this page you can see the process and how to proceed.

For your information, substitute benefits are not Disaster SNAP (D-SNAP) benefits. The availability of D-SNAP is directly related to FEMA approval of a government application for Individual Assistance (IA). This program provides financial assistance and resources to people in a designated disaster area due to damaged or destroyed property that is not insured.

Anyone with damage to their home is encouraged to report the damage to your insurance company and the local emergency management office to give your community an accurate picture of the extent of the damage.

Eligibility to replace grocery stamps in Louisiana

Current SNAP recipients who received SNAP benefits in June and / or July 2019 and lost groceries purchased with SNAP as a result of a power outage or other household accident related to Hurricane Barry may claim reimbursement.

How to Apply for Grocery Stamp Replacement in Louisiana

Affected residents must report the loss of food to DCFS on or before Friday, July 26, 2019 by submitting a completed and signed SNAP 38 form in one of the following ways:

However, if you cannot receive the signed form before Friday July 26th, you will need to complete both of the following steps to report your loss and submit the required form:

  • Surname
  • address
  • Last 4 digits of the social security number
  • local community
  • Dollar value of food loss
  • Time without electricity

Submit your signed SNAP 38 form within 10 days of reporting the loss by email or phone to DCFS by email, mail, or a local office as described above.

NOTE: Due to federal regulations, DCFS cannot process a SNAP replacement request until they receive a signed SNAP 38 form. The sooner you receive the form, the faster the request will be processed and the benefits will be issued to you.
