The main problem I ran into when I started blogging was information overload. Normally you start reading one blog after another, and in the end, you get totally stuck without being clear about what your next step should be.
Without a doubt, having a plan for your Blog already designed before starting will help you a lot. But if you don’t have it and you have already started developing your Blog, don’t worry.
In this article I am going to show you 6 things that you should focus on when you start your Blog and that at the same time, will help you solve the excess of information to which no one is immune.
How to handle the problem of information overload
1.- Content Creation
This is one of the most important parts of a Blog – without there is no content, there is no Blog, as simple as that. There are a ton of things you can do and different types of content you can create, but you’re going to have to focus a lot of your effort here, so I would focus on:
- Articles for your Blog.
- Updates in just one Social Network (focus on one where you have connected with your target market and create content… for example, if you are on Twitter, send high-value “tweets” regularly).
- A medium other than text (something that also makes sense for your target market, such as a YouTube video or an audio podcast).
What I have summarized in those 3 points is as simple as sending an update on a Social Network and also sending other content, in addition to text content. Why only one Social Network? Because you can’t be in all places at once. Master one site and then move on to the next.
2.- Blog Design.
This is one thing that beginners spend a lot of time on. A great waste of time! Instead of wasting time adjusting every little detail of your Blog design because you saw it in another that you liked, you should be creating content for it.
Install a Premium WordPress theme or a free one from the WordPress repositories, customize it a bit, add your logo, configure its colors a bit and nothing else.
The next time you need to redesign your Blog will be when you can already pay someone to make the customizations you want.
3.- Social Networks
I have already commented that you should choose a single Social Network and create content specifically directed to it. Let’s say you are very good and very social … you can do it in 2 social networks.
But instead of trying to be everywhere at the same time and have mediocre profiles in 20 places, it would be much better to choose one or two and, after mastering them as best you can, move on to the next one.
4.- Build Your List
It starts from day one. Even before putting your Blog on the air so that people can see it, configure your Autoresponder. I use the aweber Autoresponder, and I really think you should use it too.
As soon as you have your Blog set up and ready for the world, create a landing page where you can capture all of your prospects and start directing them to it.
Place a form also in the sidebar, in the footer and if possible, at the end of each of the articles you write and on your page “About me” (You will see that over time, it will be one of the most visited pages of your Blog).
5.- Basic SEO Concepts
SEO is no strange science. It is very simple and it will be enough for you to learn the basics to start doing things well. Install the plugin “All In One SEO Pack” and configure it. This will put you one step ahead of your competition.
Do not make the mistake of putting it aside, because later you will realize its importance and you will have to retrace your steps to accommodate each of your old items.
6.- Take Action!
If you start to frantically read Blogs and find advice after advice, after another and you think you have to implement it, either you do it in the moment or leave it and move on. Of course there are some great blogging tips you can implement, but unless you start working on them right now, I suggest you don’t think too much about it.
This is exactly why you are not productive on your blog in the first place. You think about all the things you have to do but don’t take action. That is an error. Take action or move on.
Conclution
I know what excess information is, because it has happened to me and it still happens to me sometimes. But it is only up to you to prevent it. If you focus on your business and try not to get distracted, you will advance much more than others.
